Reflections – Superstar

There’s a reason why this song has been redone so many times. Superstar is a song that sort of belies the group that made it most famous.

In it’s original incarnation it was about a groupie; Bette Midler did the song on the Tonight Show back in ’71 I think and Richard Carpenter saw it and knew instantly that The Carpenters had to do the song.

It was done vocally in one take; and although it’s been done many different times in many different ways by many artists, I don’t think anyone really can touch The Carpenters version, one of the greatest pieces in all of music.
