The 27 club is formed beyond Robert Johnson, the charter member. Brian Jones, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix and Jim Morrison all pass away at 27 years of age.
Now this is a Face in Toast-every time I see this, I make up in my own mind that it’s God saying “Love My Way, 28 If”. Meaning, they’d have lived to see 28 if they would have done it God’s way. Is that what it means?
This is what would be regarded as a fish delusion. I may have gotten it wrong, probably did. The Volkswagen is real though, so is the plate. A couple was on vacation during the Abbey Road photo shoot and couldn’t be contacted to move it out of the way.
So, if it was meant to tell us something, only spiritual forces would be responsible…no one airbrushed in the letters or numbers.
Understanding that the only source of communication would be a supernatural one is important here; people have pointed at the plate for a long time now but the possible solutions are always limited to the Beatles themselves and, aside from trying to find a religion in which McCartney would have been 28 or some other stretch, it just doesn’t work.
But if you view 28 IF and see it authored supernaturally and realize that the message isn’t limited to just the Beatles, then the 27 club slaps you right in the face as a possibility.
However, whether or not I got it wrong; the premise is still most likely correct. How many lives ended at 27 years of age pursuing a “peace” and “love” that didn’t contain spiritual discipline? And who knows whether a number of lives of famed 60s rock stars just happened to end at the same age that Robert Johnson died at to complete some cosmic crossword puzzle…
However, applying numerology to God isn’t something anyone should take lightly, regardless of my first impression when looking at the plate.
There is a characteristic of God that helps when discerning authorship, to help decide which side we’re dealing with, when evaluating a “clue” that could be supernatural.
Hebrews 6:18 says that it is impossible for God to lie. Meaning, that if something can be proven false then God is clearly not the author of it. (Is it a coincidence that Paul McCartney’s birthday is 6/18?)
Back to 27…
The other interesting thing about “27” is that Mark David Chapman made a very big deal about this number during both his psychiatric visits and later his trial; his feeling was that he was writing chapter 27 of The Catcher in the Rye I guess (Catcher has 26 chapters).
